The Banana Bike is a family owned business operated out of beautiful Pitt Meadows British Columbia.
The Banana Bike started in the spring of 2021, after two brothers were craving the famous chocolate dipped bananas of Disneyland, but the world was closed to travel due to the Covid-19 pandemic. So the idea to sell frozen chocolate dipped bananas at home in Pitt Meadows was born!
In March 2021 they purchased a used Icycle-Tricycle from a family in Victoria, BC. Then they consulted a chocolatier to teach them about tempering and working with the chocolate. They sourced out sustainable chocolate and eco-friendly serving products. When they felt they had mastered the process of dipped frozen bananas, The Banana Bike hit the road in June 2021!
The Banana Bike can be found at the Pitt Meadows, Port Coquitlam and Maple Ridge Farmers Markets regularly from May until September each year.
When serving up the treats at farmers markets, The Banana Bike dips their frozen bananas in their professional chocolate melter. This allows the addition of customer orders, including toppings like sprinkles, coconut flakes and crushed chocolate chip cookies.
They also do larger events like Pitt Meadows Day, Pitt Meadows Airport Day, Port Coquitlam May Day, White Rock Pride and the Hyack Festival in New Westminster.
The Banana Bike is available for special events like birthdays and graduations upon request. The Banana Bike regularly goes mobile on sunny days around Pitt Meadows and Maple Ridge, selling as they ride, kind of like an ice cream truck!
The business is operated by older brother Chris (age 17) and younger brother Nicky (age 15). Both brothers have Food Safe Level 1 certificates. They work out of a commercial kitchen in Maple Ridge with Fraser Health approval. The Banana Bike has business licenses and insurance for all of their activities.
Chris handles marketing, social media, packaging, promotional materials and point of sale. Nicky is the dipping master who also curates the regular and special edition toppings.
Customer service, a tasty product and being eco-friendly are the brothers' highest priority.
